Elf on the Shelf Ideas:  Snowman Bedroom Doors:

We went on a play date today and my friend had decorated her children’s doors as snowmen.  My boys LOVED the doors!  So I thought, “Why not have Buddy do this?”  I used black sticky black felt, orange construction paper, and left over wrapping paper to create the doors and Buddy left a note saying “I hope you like your doors!”

This is one of my most favorite Elf on the Shelf ideas!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas:  Ornament Self Portrait

I’ve seen tons of self portrait ideas for the Elf on the Shelf but since my kids love making homemade Christmas ornaments, I decided to incorporate that into our Elf’s adventures!  I simply purchased an ornament for around $1 at the craft store and painted the best picture of the Elf I could.  Since it was done by the Elf, my artist talent didn’t matter so much. :)

Elf on the Shelf Ideas: Give A Hand:

I want the boys to be very consious of helping others and what better way than to incorporate Buddy the Elf?  For this idea, I simply wrote a little note from Buddy and then “traced” his hand on the paper and taped his hand inside of the tracing.  I can’t wait to see what the boys come up with for ideas of ways to help others!

Elf On The Shelf Ideas: Construction Zone

elf construction zone

It’s that time of the year-The Elf on the Shelftime!  I am always trying to come up with new (and let’s be honest-easy) Elf On The Shelf Ideas.

Like many little boys, my sons love trucks-and construction trucks are the youngest’s favorite!  So I thought, why not create a construction zone?!

This scene took less than 5 minutes-simply grab some construction vehicles, write up some signs, and done!

Elf On The Shelf Ideas: Advent Calendar Elf

Do you have an Elf of the Shelf?  We purchased The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition last year and loved every second of it!  Don’t forget to check out all of our Elf On The Shelf Ideas!

We also purchase an Advent Calendar each year and the boys really enjoy this tradition as well.  Last year we were gifted the Playmobil Advent Calendar “Pirates Treasure Cove”and the boys still play with the pirate toys from it all the time!  In fact, the picture above is from that calendar!

This year we caught a great deal on the K’NEX Angry Birds Christmas Advent Calendar and plan on using that for our Elf in the upcoming weeks!  Simple allow a few day of using the calendar so that you have some open slots and one morning your children will find your elf in one of the holes! You need to be careful with this Elf on the Shelf idea though, make sure he pops our of a hole that isn’t near the next slot you will open-remember, no touching the Elf!

Elf On The Shelf Ideas: How The Elf Returns!

elf returns

Do you have an Elf of the Shelf?  We purchased The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition last year and loved every second of it!  We are always looking for new Elf on the Shelf Ideas and when my friend told me about this one, I HAD to do it.  Don’t forget to check out all of our Elf on the Shelf Ideas!

The boys and I have discussed the need to clean out the playroom and put some toys aside for other little boys who would love to have them.  My friend told me yesterday about seeing somewhere that someone’s elf had arrived with boxes to help with this chore. So I decided to do our own version of this.  Our elf does not arrive for the season until we put our tree up for Christmas, but this morning he made a special appearance!

He came with a note and shopping bags explaining for each boy to fill up a shopping bag with gently used toys and that he would return around Thanksgiving to see how they did. When the boys went in the playroom to fill up their bags, I quickly hid the elf and replaced him with some treats.  They were thrilled at his visit and said they can’t wait for his return so they can thank him for his candy!  I promised I would email Santa with a picture of their filled bags.
