Healthy After Schools Snack Ideas + Win $25 Whole Foods Gift Card!

School has been is session in my area for over a month and let me tell you, my son comes home STARVING!  I try my best to have snacks waiting for him that are healthy but did you know that research shows that kids are more likely to eat healthy snacks when they help to create them themselves?  I teamed up with Whole Foods to test this theory and found that as usual, research is correct!

The Whole Foods site has a ton of super easy and healthy meal ideas and I adjusted some of their snack ideas using my boys’ favorite items and they were a big hit!

Fancy Ants On A Log:

Ingredients:
Celery
Peanuts
Cranberries
Grapes
Honey

We simply covered the celery with peanut butter and Will dropped his favorite toppings on top-healthy and delicious!

“Strawberry Grahams”

Ingredients:
Graham Crackers
Peanut Butter
Strawberries
Honey

This snack was also simple!  We covered the graham crackers with peanut butter, put sliced strawberries on top, and Will drizzled the honey as a fun topping.

    Smoothies! I make them low calorie but chock full of everything good, fruits, yogurt, a little veggie (secret!)! sometimes a little ground oatmeal – it thickens it!

    Letting my kids make/learn their own snacks to include: celery and peanut butter, wheat cracker w/sliced cucumbers with drizzled honey, fruit salad, veggies with their favorite dips. The main thing is to promote healthy eating, involving them and teaching them with motivation. Good luck all.

    Our favorite snack is unsalted pretzels and hummus. We also love fresh fruits! Especially strawberries, pineapple, and watermelon.
