Virginia Beach-Love The Moment

Growing up in a small beach town helped to mold me into a beach lover, but when I moved to Virginia Beach 15 years ago, I fully began to understand beach living.  Virginia Beach is a much bigger city than my small hometown, but offers the best of 2 worlds, equaling the true coastal living experience.  If a beautiful sandy beach that stretches for miles is what your family craves, Virginia Beach is your place.  If you desire amazing restaurants and attractions, our city can meet that need as well!

Whether you’re a young family, older adults, or in between Virginia Beach gives the ideal location to plan your vacation!  Before having children, my husband and I enjoyed the relaxing sandy beach by day and the fun filled and delicious restaurants the Virginia Beach night life has to offer.  It was a no brainer to choose Virginia Beach as the city we bought our first home; the city has all we wanted to offer our future family.

After having children, we were so glad we chose to call this city home.  We are able to stroll the boardwalk, visit the various themed play sets located up and down the boardwalk (Grommit Park and the Pirate Ship structure are my boys’ favorites), and of course visit the other area attractions.  We spend at least 3 days a week at Ocean Breeze Waterpark where there are rides and water features for all ages!  The wave pool is where my oldest chooses to spend his day, while the Buccaneer Bay area is my youngest’s choice.  We are beyond excited to see the new addition this year called Adventure River.

Another favorite place to spend our days is the Virginia Aquarium.  This is a must see for any visitor to the beach!  You are sure to satisfy anyone’s tastes by watching the seals splash and swim, touch and observe animals in the touch tank, or even cruise the waters spotting dolphins!  With two separate buildings with a nature trail in between, your day will be filled with learning and fun (and if you have children they are sure to sleep well at night)! To end your day’s adventures, you can unwind by taking a coastal tour of Virginia where you will sample and enjoy the amazingly delicious meals our area can present you. If you like to enjoy music and festivals while you vacation, the beach has something for you too! Beachstreet USA offers the best of local and national musical talent, plus festivals and events throughout the summer to keep you and your family busy and entertained. My husband and I used to love sitting on local patios enjoying music and fireworks, and now our children love the festivals, shows, and events that are constantly offered!

If your family is planning a vacation, Virginia Beach should definitely be at the top of your list.  The past 15 years have been the happiest of my life and Virginia Beach has been the home of many precious memories.  I can not think of another place that could offer so many fun beach trips, museums outings, appetizing meals, and family attractions.  I am so happy to call this city my home and extremely grateful that my children get to live and love so many of their life’s moments here.

Making Memories-Cherished Jewelry

This series on how to make the most out of the time you have with your children is brought to you by Amee at Madame Deals and Sharon at Mom on Dealz.

I am a firm believer that jewelry is memorable. I have my grandmother’s wedding band. That is why I started a Chamilia bracelet for my daughter. I am going to give it to her on her 16th birthday. She is only three but she knows each story associated with each bead. I got the purse bead when I knew I was going to have a girl because daddy said she was “going to break the bank.” She has done just that. Then we have a princess and the pea bead which she was the pea on our first Halloween.

Then we have the beach charm from her first visit to Florida to see Grammy. I have the I love you sign in sign language because she used to say, “I ov ooooo!” Then we have an owl because she would look for owls with her grandparents in Rhode Island. We got her a shoe for her first birthday because she was walking and a cupcake for her second birthday.

Then her third birthday we started Ballet and she went with me to pick out her charm.

I wear my bracelet all the time because one day it will be hers. It reminds me that time flies and jewelry can be a scrapbook of the soul.

Making Memories-Include Your Kids in Your Exercise

This series on how to make the most out of the time you have with your children is brought to you by Amee at Madame Deals and Sharon at Mom on Dealz

My husband and I are both avid runners.  Although we enjoy our solo runs, we also like to include the boys in our exercise too.  When the weather is fitting, we strap them in the double stroller and hit the pavement.  They love it!  Not only do they get to see all the many things around them, they also usually get a special snack for the ride!  We always talk to them during the run as well and point out things we’d like them to see such as a squirrel running up a tree or a group of ducks about to fly over our heads.  Also for the last quarter mile of the run, our 3 year old really enjoys gettting out and helping us “finish our race”.  Below is a picture of our boys helping my husband celebrate his most recent half marathon.

We know that including our children in our running routine, we are not only building memories with our children, but also teaching them the importance of taking care of your body.

Making Memories-Create Routines

This series on how to make the most out of the time you have with your children is brought to you by Amee at Madame Deals and Sharon at Mom on Dealz.

I am a big believer of routines and their importance in the development of children.  In my home we have morning routine, nap routine, and bedtime routine and these help make transitions much easier for us.  The also provide us with special time with our children that will be remembered by the boys forever.

Part of our morning routine is to always sing “Good morning to you” to our 15 month old and at night my 3 year old and I always trace “I Heart You” on each other’s hands.  The boys love these actions and if by chance we forget, they are QUICK to remind us. These routines are so small but mean so much and help start and end our days on a good note-and that is a memory I definitely want my children to have of their childhood.

Manage My Mess Monday: Organizing DVD’s and Games

Welcome to the eight installment of my new series “Manage Your Mess Monday”. This series will focus on organizing your life and home. I hope you find some useful tips to help you manage any “mess” you may have in your life. Visit here for my past Manage Your Mess posts. This week’s post is all about organizing your child’s DVD’s.

I am what many consider to be a “strict” mom when it comes to the boys watching TV.  In fact, Will was 2 before he was allowed to watch anything except Baby Signing Times.  However, now that he’s a bit older, he gets to view a lot more and has come to dearly love characters such as Thomas and Buddy the dinosaur.  He has even began to build quite the DVD collection!  I have found that the cases take up a lot of room and can be disasterous when he decides to open them all and mix them up trying to find his favorite of the day I solved this problem by heading to the store and grabbing a small DVD case that can be zippered closed.  Now his movies can be easily transported anywhere and I can place the case high enough in a room to be out of his reach.  The boys are a bit young to play video games but this easy solution can also be used for games as well!

I have also read about other who have used bigger binders to hold family DVD collections and games so of course I went on a search for some affordable ones.  Here’s what I found:

 Case Logic 64 Capacity CD Wallet-only $10!

 120 Disc Carry Case – Black-only $12.99 and it has a handle!
